»1536« is a play in its first German-language production. It is by the author Ava Pickett, translated by Gerhild Steinbuch, and directed by Jaz Woodcock-Stewart, whose first work at the Schaubühne this is. It is set in 1536: the friends Anna, Mariella and Jane meet in a field in Essex when word arrives from London that Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, has been arrested. The play depicts female friendship and the difficulty of solidarity in a repressive society – and asks how much has really changed for women in five hundred years.
