„Akira“ is a Japanese anime film from 1988. The friends Tetsuo and Kaneda are members of a biker gang that rules the streets of Neo-Tokyo at night. After Tetsuo collides with a strange figure during a fight, the military captures him and runs experiments that awaken psychic powers, which spiral out of control and threaten to destroy Tokyo a second time. Since its release the film has been almost solely responsible for the boom of Japanese animation among international audiences in the early 1990s and had a tremendous influence on a whole generation of film enthusiasts.
