ARCHITECTURAL ECHOTONES. A Poetics Of The Surrounds is an exhibition and takeover of the SAVVY Contemporary art space in Berlin's Wedding district, spanning installations, paintings, drawings, video works and on-site performances. It is presented by SAVVY Contemporary as part of the 36th São Paulo Biennale's travelling exhibition programme, with the Brazilian collective Vilanismo, a brotherhood of ten Black artists from the peripheries of São Paulo, showing in Berlin for the first time. The group uses the venue as a laboratory and working studio to address race, gender and class, Black masculinities, ancestral and Afro-Indigenous knowledge, and resistance and self-organisation in peripheral urban life. Guided tours with the artists, curators and the SAVVY team, workshops on the collective's curatorial practice "curadoTRETA", and contributions from the library and radio station are part of the programme.
