An informal BerGSAS-Talk with Marian Feldman of Johns Hopkins University about monuments and memory in ancient Mesopotamia. Drawing on her research and her book „Remembering and Forgetting in Ancient Mesopotamia“, she discusses how ancient societies actively shaped their past by preserving or erasing material culture. The Q&A and roundtable for doctoral students also covers monumental architecture, visual traditions, space, power and the legitimization of authority. Registration by email until 17 November is required.
