"Deberlinisierung" is a project of talks, lectures, readings, music and a screening at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. It is curated by Ibou Coulibaly Diop and Franck Hermann Ekra and forms part of the heimaten programme. Its starting point is the Berlin Congo Conference of 1884/85, at which twelve European countries, the USA and the Ottoman Empire organised the division of Africa. 140 years on, the project seeks to untangle colonial appropriation and erase its epistemological legacy, bringing together activists and figures from the visual and performing arts, film, music, architecture, literature, scholarship and political theory.
