"Fabian. Der Gang vor die Hunde" is a stage play based on Erich Kästner's novel, performed at the Vagantenbühne theatre in Berlin. It is directed by Lily Kuhlmann, who transforms the venue into a bar and takes the audience straight to late-1920s Berlin. It follows Fabian as he drifts through the city's excessive nightlife, distracting himself from unemployment, while the rising Nazi movement tightens its noose around the city. Kästner's characters mirror social division and the search for one's place in a failing world – a feeling close to our own time.
