“Im Rausch. Von Ekstase bis Erleuchtung” is a public guided tour for adults through the Humboldt Forum. The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin use objects from the Ethnologisches Museum and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst to show how substances such as coca, opium poppy, mushrooms and tobacco have been used medicinally, ritually or for pleasure. Pipes, paintings, photographs, videos and drug containers convey the cultural meanings of intoxication and drug use. Topics also include economic aspects, legalisation debates, addiction prevention, as well as the “War on Drugs” and its connections to colonialism and racism.
