"La Graciosa – Kanarische Träume" is a documentary about the small Canary island of La Graciosa north of Lanzarote and its roughly 600 inhabitants, who all live in a single village. Behind the film are the directors Karin Kaper and Dirk Szuszies, who have known the island since 1994 and built a trusting relationship with its residents. The film portrays this unique microcosm, now officially recognised as the eighth island of the Canaries, and addresses themes such as gender equality, local self-government, environmental protection, sustainable tourism and the loss of traditions. It asks whether the islanders' dreams have come true, and is a love declaration to their zest for life and defiant spirit.
