This is a reading from a cultural history of Berlin dialect, written for locals and newcomers alike. The author Lea Streisand, who also produces the audio column "war schön jewesen" on radioeins, explains how the big city got its big mouth, why the Beatles speak Berlin dialect in a film, and that the supposedly Berlin expression "Telespargel" for the TV tower is nonsense. She shows that Berliners love to complain and scowl, but you should not take offense, since the Berlin dialect is an art of pretending rather than meaning it. The event takes place in the event room on the 3rd floor of the library, is free of charge, and registration is required as seats are limited.
