The Gemäldegalerie on Matthäikirchplatz presents a permanent exhibition devoted since 1998 chiefly to painting from the 13th to the 18th century. The works are shown across 7,000 square metres of exhibition space. The museum counts among Berlin's best art houses and is located at the Kulturforum in Berlin-Tiergarten. It is part of a cultural offering that also includes the nearby Museum Island with its five museums belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage.
