The documentary "Materia Prima – New Energy. Old Powers?" by Jens Schanze offers a rare insight into Europe's strategies for securing the Bolivian lithium urgently needed for the energy transition. It shows the opposing interests of Europeans seeking to save their automotive industry and Bolivians who want to use the raw material to fight poverty. The present is overshadowed by 500 years of colonial history, and texts from an indigenous chronicler of the 16th century raise the question of whether we are ready for decolonisation. Director Jens Schanze will be present, followed by a panel discussion.
