The film 'Morichales' by Chris Gude tells of vast gold reserves in Venezuela that lie hidden beneath moriche palm trees, attracting crowds of miners. A narrator travels from remote jungle mines to the banks of the Orinoco River, seeking to understand the uncertain fortunes of the gold miner. His reflections intertwine with illustrations and photochemical paintings that map the extraction and trade of gold in Venezuela. In doing so, the film questions humanity's extractivist relationship with nature.
