Thärichen's Tentett is a big band that has stood for original, poetic jazz beyond conventional formats for 27 years. Behind the ensemble is Nicolai Thärichen, who plays piano and composes; the lineup spans vocals and brass as well as saxophones and flute, guitar, bass and drums. In its music, poetry from Shakespeare to Ringelnatz meets grand jazz orchestration, humor meets melancholy, and intelligent lyrics meet emotional depth, as the current seventh album “Love, Happiness, and Loneliness” shows. The Süddeutsche Zeitung finds the ensemble unrivaled, and the FAZ praises how it elegantly oscillates between familiar traditions and clever ideas.
