THE MAD DOG OF EUROPE is a film about a screenplay that was never made. In 1932, Herman J. Mankiewicz, later famous for Citizen Kane, wrote an anti-Nazi film project depicting the collapse of a German-Jewish family at the start of Hitler's rise to power. Fearful of economic and diplomatic consequences, the Hollywood studios ultimately shelved the visionary script despite several committed attempts to realize it. Director Rubika Shah, who also co-wrote the screenplay, draws parallels between this story and today's political pressure on media and culture.
