"The School of Self-Defense" is a multi-day format of workshops, talks, performances, ballroom events and dance theatre taking place at various venues around Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. It is presented by the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and curated by the Rio de Janeiro-based artists Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira, together with Sophie Yukiko and Marlene Engel. Its starting point is the two artists' practice, which examines how violence inscribes itself in bodies and how one can respond to it and resist through one's own movements. The School rethinks self-defence – not merely as a reaction but as a practice that can be shared in the body, in space and with one another, bringing together artists, thinkers and communities from Berlin, Brazil and beyond.
