"The Silence" is a theatre play by Falk Richter, shown as a German-language premiere on the Schaubühne's Globe stage, with Dimitrij Schaad playing the role of Falk Richter. In his autofictional play, the author and theatre director Richter returns to his own family history. In dialogue with his mother, he examines truths left unspoken for decades, repressed secrets and unprocessed traumas, including his father's experiences of war, his mother's flight from West Prussia and the suppression of his gay identity. The confrontation becomes a journey into the abysses of West German bourgeois society from the post-war era to the present, in which autobiography and fiction blend and questions arise about other models of masculinity and relationships.
