A colloquium talk titled “Von der Staatsgründung zum Sicherheitsstaat” examines the emergence and development of Syria's military and the Mukhabarat between 1946 and 1990. It is organized by the Bundesarchiv - Stasi-Unterlagen-Archiv at the Stasi-Zentrale, Campus für Demokratie. Speaker Thora Pindus (Philipps-Universität Marburg) presents findings from a doctoral project, focusing on the influence of former members of the Wehrmacht and (Waffen-)SS on building and modernizing the army and intelligence services. The event takes place in hybrid form, registration by e-mail is required, and admission is free.
