"Weaving Belonging" is a residency showing with performance at Tanzfabrik Berlin BÜHNE, presented as part of the Emerging Change dance festival. It is by Sointu Pere, a Berlin-based Afro-Finnish dance artist, performer and cultural worker whose movement practice is rooted in improvisation and shaped by street dance, Afro-Cuban and contemporary styles. The embodied research explores belonging through movement, understands identity as something fluid and continually unfolding, and asks about the politics of being seen, sensuality, slowness and pleasure in the performative space. Inspired by social and club dance cultures, Pere approaches them as cultural spaces of soulful groove, communal care and embodied survival strategies.
