A Remembrance Day concert at Cadogan Hall centred on Vaughan Williams' Dona nobis pacem, together with Finzi's Requiem da camera and Judith Weir's O sweet spontaneous earth. The City of London Choir presents two British war requiems to commemorate the Armistice of 11 November 1918, joined by Britten Sinfonia, soprano Hilary Cronin, baritone Gareth Brynmor John and conductor Daniel Hyde. Vaughan Williams' powerful work decries the cruelty of war and cries for peace, while Finzi's secular Requiem laments lost youth and a rural way of life changed by war. Weir's setting of American poetry reflects on our place on Earth today.
