An Evening With David Byrne: Sleeping Beauties is a solo talk in which David Byrne presents ideas from his forthcoming book, Sleeping Beauties. Byrne, who co-founded Talking Heads in 1975 and has worked across music, film, theatre, photography and visual art, is described as one of the most original and influential artists of the last half century. The talk explores why some transformative discoveries, inventions and works of art, from continental drift and dark matter to Bach, Vermeer and Melville, were overlooked in their own time, while others flourish almost instantly. Presented by Intelligence Squared, it celebrates visionaries ahead of their time and reflects on creativity, innovation and recognition, and lasts approximately one hour with no interval.
