Beauty and Destruction: Wartime London in Art is a free exhibition at IWM London on Level 3. It tells the story of London during the Second World War as seen by artists, many commissioned by the government's War Artists' Advisory Committee, set up in 1939. Over 45 paintings and drawings are shown alongside photographs, film, objects and oral histories, with works by artists such as Edward Ardizzone, Evelyn Dunbar and Henry Carr. The exhibition shows Londoners facing loss, displacement, overcrowding and shortages, and is suitable for both adults and children, with a stamper trail and activity sheet for families.
