An exhibition of new paintings by South African artist Caryn Scrimgeour, titled 'A Certain Slant of Light'. Her works show meticulously rendered table settings where fragile keepsakes meet everyday objects, rich in symbolism and reminiscent of Dutch Golden Age still life. Butterflies, petals and burnt matches serve as vanitas reminders of transience and fragility, drawing also on Classical Chinese and Japanese poetry. The gallery presenting the show is Everard Read London, specialists in contemporary South African art.
