Fidelio Orchestra performs Mahler's Sixth Symphony, a work often called the 'Tragic' despite being composed during one of the happiest periods of Mahler's life. The evening opens with a pre-concert conversation in which Raffaello Morales and Edward Seckerson, chaired by Anthony Freud OBE, explore the symphony's questions of suffering, fate and loss. Founded in 2019, the Fidelio Orchestra unites non-professional players with emerging professionals in a joyful, unpretentious atmosphere. As a charity since 2020, it gives young musicians high-quality orchestral experience and runs outreach programmes with schools across London.
