"Flight of the Red Balloon" is a screening of Hou Hsiao-hsien's 2007 film from Taiwan and France, his first feature shot outside Asia. Commissioned by Paris's Musée d'Orsay and inspired by Albert Lamorisse's 1956 short "The Red Balloon", it stars Juliette Binoche as Suzanne, a busy puppeteer raising her son Simon in Paris. When Song, a Taiwanese film student, becomes Simon's babysitter, she joins his daily routines while a mysterious red balloon drifts above the city, quietly shadowing their lives. The film is shown in French dialogues with English subtitles and marks cinematographer Mark Lee Ping-bing's first feature shot in France.
