A UK premiere screening of the Brazilian film Gugu's World, presented in collaboration with Cine Brazil, the London-based organisation bringing Brazilian cinema to UK and European audiences. Directed by Allan Deberton, the film follows Gugu, an almost-twelve-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a soccer player and lives under the loving, open-minded care of his grandmother Dilma. In their small community by the slowly drying Araújo Lima Reservoir, whose waters expose the remains of a submerged town, their bond shields them from the disapproval of Gugu's father and the community. As Dilma grows increasingly fragile, Gugu worries about losing the only safe space he has ever known.
