Hackney Folk Club presents Chris Wood, an evening of folk songwriting. Wood is a six-time BBC Folk Awards winner who has played with the Royal Shakespeare Company and was a key member of The Imagined Village alongside Billy Bragg, Martin and Eliza Carthy. His songs reflect on minor league football, empty nest syndrome, learning to swim, Cook-in Sauce and the gecko as a metaphor for contemporary society. Fans such as Tom Robinson and Chris Difford admire him, while Stick In The Wheel and The Unthanks count him as an influence; his concerts are described as a cliche free zone, full of love and wry intelligence.
