A screening of the film 'Hard to Be a God', the final work of director Aleksei German, made over 15 years and completed after his death by his son and widow. It adapts the Strugatsky Brothers' 1964 novel, following Don Rumata, a human scientist observing the planet Arkanar, an Earth-like world trapped in a Middle Ages of superstition and brutality. Leonid Yarmolnik stars in this sensory overload of rain, mud and blood, in which German captures the novel's pessimism about the future of enlightenment.
