Hidden Gem History Group meets at St Mary Magdalene's Church Hall in North Ockendon to explore the history and heritage of this rural village, which the church has been at the centre of for a thousand years. The group behind it welcomes anyone with an interest or passion for the area to its open meetings, where all may attend and contribute and refreshments are available. Past talks have covered topics such as St Cedd's well, early Pilgrim Way routes, the Batt sisters buried in the churchyard, and the Mardyke River.
