A talk in the Kant's Cave series, a hybrid lecture and discussion that you can attend in person or on Zoom. The speaker is Dr Lilian Alweiss, an Associate Professor in Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. Drawing on Kant's Toward Perpetual Peace, she questions Just War theorists who hold that wars can be morally justified because they eliminate evil, arguing instead that wars are essentially barbaric and that we have a duty to understand war in terms of its opposite: perpetual peace. The event is sponsored by The Royal Institute of Philosophy and onRedchurch.
