Les Miserables is a stage production running at London's Sondheim Theatre, which critics have hailed as "Les Mis for the 21st Century". Set in 19th-century France, it tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict seeking redemption after years of imprisonment, whose path collides with Javert, a police inspector obsessed with enforcing the law. As revolution brews in Paris, themes of love, sacrifice and the struggle for justice run through the show, building to a climactic fight for freedom.
