A lunchtime talk about Aldersgate House, a late-1980s office building above Barbican station being converted by the architects Cooke Fawcett for UCG into low-carbon offices. Directors Oliver Cooke and Francis Fawcett give a candid account of the retrofit still under construction, from raising its energy rating from EPC F/G towards B and introducing all-electric services to working above live railway tunnels. The talk covers practical lessons in design, collaboration, fire safety and planning, and how the building's 1980s architecture can be retained and celebrated. It ends with a Q&A.
