My Mother Tongue Wants To Disown Me is a dramatic comedy, one woman show staged as part of the VOILA! Festival. Written and performed by Briana Croitoru and directed by Saphira Wing, it follows Madalina, a Romanian girl strained by her relationship with her culture and mother. Trying to erase parts of herself by changing her name and speaking only English, she clashes with her mom, then uncovers photos and letters revealing stories her mum never told her. The 60-minute play, recommended for ages 16+, is about the deep nostalgia we feel for home despite not being connected to it.
