Private Jones is a new musical based on the true story of Gomer Jones, a deaf Welsh sniper who was the best marksman in his company during World War I. Written and directed by Marshall Pailet, it is a coming-of-age story in which a young man, recently losing his hearing, becomes an unlikely hero among a company of misfit soldiers. The show weaves together sign language, live captioning, a Foley soundscape and an original score, performed by a cast of hearing, hard-of-hearing and deaf actors, starring Rose Ayling-Ellis, James Spence and Bronwyn James. It runs at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
