A guided curator's tour through Disco Inferno, the exhibition of artist Paloma Contreras Lomas at Gasworks, held entirely in Spanish with no English translation. Independent curator Juan Felipe Paredes leads the tour, introducing the central themes and ideas of the show and the context shaping her work. Through diverse media, Contreras Lomas explores representations of her native country and how historical and contemporary violence manifests in popular culture and media narratives, drawing on folklore, literature, children's comics and her own personal stories to question patriarchal systems and their intersections with capitalism through a grotesque aesthetics tied to subcultures. Admission is free, though booking is recommended, and temporary seating can be provided on request.
