Directed by Roland West, The Bat is a 1926 silent mystery based on the Broadway play by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood, credited with establishing the 'Old Dark House' trope. A wealthy socialite rents a country mansion and finds herself caught in a web of terror as a masked criminal known as 'The Bat' searches for a hidden fortune within its walls. Secret passages, flickering lights and a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows plunge the household into chaos.
