A book launch and conversation marking the publication of 'The Desire for Syria in Medieval England'. EK Myerson, an artist and writer with a PhD in medieval literature from Birkbeck, discusses their first book with Hope Doherty-Harrison, Lecturer in Medieval Studies at Birkbeck. The book uses the 1458 plunder of merchant Robert Sturmy's cargo by pirates off Malta to show how Syrian imports shaped medieval English art, language and everyday life. The event is organised by the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, is free and open to all, with registration required.
