An exhibition of paintings by Jeremy Gardiner titled The Lake District, on view at Portland Gallery. Over the past three years Gardiner has observed the mountains, lakes and waterfalls of the Lake District, and the works show his fascination and understanding of the landscape and its history. The textured paintings, with many layers and expressive colours, are personal evocations of light, atmosphere, weather, time of day and the changing seasons. While eschewing pure abstraction, they remain recognisable and reveal the spirit of place, including panoramic depictions of Windermere and Ullswater.
