An exhibition at the Hunterian Museum tracing 250 years of the hospital operating theatre through paintings, photographs and design plans. Curated by Alice Watkinson-Deane, it explores how pain-relief, germ-control, architecture, medical technology and changing cultural and ethical viewpoints transformed this space. Highlights include a recently rediscovered eighteenth-century painting of a leg amputation in a London hospital and images of surgical teams in NHS hospitals today. Access is included with free entry to the museum, booking recommended.
