Ulya is a drama about a teenage girl in 1964 who grows up on a remote farm, troubled by her unusual height until basketball coaches spot her and take her to Riga to join a famous team. Struggling with her height and identity, she trains hard but realises basketball cannot fulfil her dream of a normal life, and must choose between hiding and aiming to be the best basketball player in the world. It was directed by Viesturs Kairiss and is inspired by the true story of the legendary Latvian player Uljana Semjonova, winner of two Olympic Gold medals.
