A theatre staging of Uncle Vanya, Chekhov's tragic comedy, moved to a modern-day office setting. Rikki Henry's production, translated by David Yan and acclaimed in 2023, returns as part of Stratford East's 2027 season. Vanya, in a midlife crisis in a rundown office, faces despondency when his brother-in-law arrives with a proposal to sell the business. Vanya and the doctor Astrov fall for the glamorous Yelena, and long-repressed confessions bring tragic consequences in this darkly witty exploration of unrequited love and quiet despair.
