An evening talk at The Hellenic Centre. Artist Vasilis Papageorgiou and curator Dr. Marianna Tsionki discuss his artistic practice, including the new sculptures he is developing during his residency at Gasworks, London, and key themes of his forthcoming 2027 exhibition at Leeds Arts University. His work explores relationships between the human body, architecture and landscape, tourism's impact on the environment, and the parallel exhaustion of the planet's resources and of people under contemporary life. The new work focuses on the mining industry in Yorkshire, engaging with the region's socio-political histories, including the miners' strikes of the 1970s and 80s, and examining the entanglements of resource extraction, labour and collective memory.
