A lecture titled 'Why Constable Didn't Give Up Figure Painting' given by Nicholas Robbins, Lecturer in British Art at University College London. It reflects on John Constable's work from the 1830s through the less well-known aspect of his figure drawing and painting, including his visits to the Royal Academy's life drawing class. The lecture explores how Constable sought the origins of landscape painting in the life class's spatial dynamics, and also examines his printmaking, exhibition paintings and 'Lectures on Landscape'. Organised by Professor Steve Edwards of the Manton Centre for British Art at the Courtauld, it is part of 'Generation Landscape', a three-year programme with the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
