A special screening of the film DOVZHENKO. FIRST LOOK, followed by nothing stated beyond the film itself. The film follows young artist Oleksandr Dovzhenko, who arrives in Odesa in 1926 to make his first film as Ukrainian cinema begins to find its voice. Dreaming of cinema as an art form rather than a tool of propaganda, he comes into conflict with a system determined to control artistic expression. Based on the early career of one of Ukraine's most influential filmmakers, it tells of a young artist's struggle for creative freedom against the growing pressure of the Soviet regime.
