A screening of Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel, one of the most infamous and controversial mainstream movies ever made. It follows Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell, the amoral, Beethoven-obsessed leader of a gang of teen criminals rampaging through a dystopic future London. After his arrest, he undergoes a treatment that turns his violent impulses back on him, raising provocative questions about government control and free will. The film, rated X upon release, remains shocking, bleak, and grimly funny, with Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri, and Miriam Carlin also starring.
