An evening at the Society of Illustrators built around Dave Horowitz's picture book Five Little Gefiltes and Gefiltlekh finf, the Yiddish animated film made from it, in its first public screenings in the United States. It includes a screening of the film, a behind-the-scenes presentation and a conversation with Horowitz, Sarah Schulman of the Stockholm Yiddish press Dos Nisele, and animators and co-directors Helene Berg and Isabella A Johanson, tracing how the book traveled from English into Swedish and then into Yiddish with translator Michael Wex. The talk looks at how writers, publishers, composers and animators on both sides of the Atlantic are adding to Jewish and Yiddish culture today, followed by an audience Q&A and a signing, with the book for sale in English and Swedish.
