An Evening With The New York Times Op-Docs 2026, Part 1 is a special presentation of four acclaimed short documentaries followed by a discussion. The filmmakers and members of The New York Times Op-Docs team appear in a Q&A after the 6:30 show. The program includes LA RETAGUARDIA (THE ONES WHO STAY) by Olivier Côté and Jean-François Bouchard, about four artists in Havana deciding whether to stay in Cuba amid a national crisis; SON by Leona Cauklija, about a mother communicating with her homeless son through his graffiti tags; STALIN BOYS by Ora DeKornfeld and Bianca Giaever, about Texas middle school students fascinated with Joseph Stalin; and LIVING WITH A VISIONARY by Stephen P. Neary, about a husband caring for his wife through vivid hallucinations after fifty years of marriage.
