Mending and Repair at MAD is a workshop at the Museum of Arts and Design where visitors join a mending club to bring much-loved garments back to life, patching holey sweaters, darning socks, and stitching up worn sleeves. It is facilitated by fiber artist and puppeteer J Hann, a New York City-based artist whose textural work draws inspiration from the past and is centered in the weird, wonderful, and whimsical. Participants use the museum's array of supplies and tools and can connect with fellow menders, share favorite techniques, or learn something new in a welcoming, collaborative space. It takes place on Pay-What-You-Wish evenings and is free with museum admission, with advance registration recommended and drop-ins welcome.", "url": "https://noky.io/en/new-york/events/darn-it-mending-and-repair-at-mad-54033/", "official_url": "https://www.madmuseum.org/events/darn-it-mending-and-repair-mad-2", "image": "https://noky.io/images/04d7845bf075be9766bc218a112fc96c8cd0a6e60c08ba754c3fd39db27dd52c-2000.webp", "dates": [{"start": "2026-11-04T18:00:00-05:00", "end": null, "place": "Museum of Arts and Design", "address": "Columbus Circle 2, New York", "tickets": ""}, {"start": "2026-12-02T18:00:00-05:00", "end": null, "place": "Museum of Arts and Design", "address": "Columbus Circle 2, New York", "tickets": ""}], "similar": [{"title": "Dialogue + Studio: Embroidery Night School with Grant Jonathan", "start": "2026-11-12T18:00:00-05:00", "end": "2026-11-12T20:00:00-05:00", "place": "American Folk Art Museum", "address": "Lincoln Square 2, New York", "price": "$12 members, students, artists, seniors; $15 general public", "price_from": "15.00", "price_to": "15.00", "tickets_url": "https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dialogue-studio-embroidery-night-school-with-grant-jonathan-tickets-2002229352893?aff=oddtdtcreator", "category": "workshops-courses", "tags": ["diy/textiles/embroidery", "art/folk-art"], "description": "Dialogue + Studio: Embroidery Night School with Grant Jonathan is a hands-on embroidery workshop at the American Folk Art Museum, part of a three-evening series conceived with artist and activist Spandita Malik alongside the exhibition Locating Girlhood: Place and Identity in Early American \"Schoolgirl\" Art. For this second evening, Grant Jonathan, an award-winning Tuscarora raised beadwork artist of the Tuscarora Nation, Bear Clan, will share his knowledge of Tuscarora Raised Beadwork. Participants will learn the \"hump\" or \"rope\" stitch, which creates three-dimensional shapes by sewing beads in raised arches or layering beads over beads, and make a tiny beaded heart pincushion using this historical Indigenous art form.
