Do Not Turn Off My Telenovela is a bilingual multimedia live performance that turns the theater into a working TV studio, with cameras rolling, actors performing, and a lone violinist playing a live soundtrack. It is created by Anonymous Ensemble, a resident company at Pregones Theater, and it is a riotous send-up and tribute to the high-drama, serialized storytelling of classic telenovelas. The show asks what role artists and popular culture play in democracy, whether we can make a difference, and whether we can find joy in resistance. It runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission and marks Year 2 of the ensemble's three-year Bronx residency.
