Fall Art Practice Series – Returning to the Elements is an online art practice series held on Friday mornings, in which participants work in any medium from their home studios over Zoom. It is led by Jody Hojin Kimmel, Sensei, Abbot of the Zen Center of NYC-Fire Lotus Temple, and takes the traditional elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air, sometimes expanded to include Space and Consciousness, as its theme. The sessions explore expressing the energetic qualities of the elements rather than their appearance, alongside a Meditation on the Six Elements from the Mahārāhulovāda Sutta, with Dharma words and prompts offered to spark creativity. Newcomers are welcome and no likeness-making is required.
