Girl, Interrupted is a feature film based on Susanna Kaysen's 1993 memoir of the same name. Directed by James Mangold, it is set at a New England psychiatric hospital c. 1967, where Winona Ryder lands after a nervous breakdown, playing the Kaysen role and also producing. Among the committed at Claymoore are Brittany Murphy, Elisabeth Moss and, in a star-making turn, Angelina Jolie as sociopath agitator Lisa Rowe. Ryder holds the film together with her quiet, alert intensity, offering a springboard for her co-stars.
